I hear the words “Be still, and know that I am God” ringing in my heart and my mind. God is saying slow your mind, clear your thoughts. Rest in Me and I will rest in you. All God wants of us it to be still and to talk to Him. To be in His presence. When we shift our focus from things of this world to the things of Him, He will give us the peace that our soul longs for. The peace that can only be found in Him.
But why does God’s word tell us to be still? I believe it’s because in times like these, that is the only way we can truly hear Him.
In times like these, as we draw closer to Him, He will draw closer to us and fill us with His peace. I don’t know about you, but between the news and social media, it tends to absorb my time, and if I’m not careful, it can consume my every thought. The devil uses these things to distract us. To place fear, and doubt, and worry in us.
When we choose to quiet our souls and just be still in God’s presence, He is able to bring rest and peace to our hearts and our souls. God’s word tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7. When we come into God’s presence and completely submit ourselves to Him, He will guard our hearts and minds from the things the devil tries to use to bring fear to us.
Right now, the world is gripped by fear. We go to the store and the shelves are empty. We watch as the world is worried about getting milk, and meat, and bread. But God’s word tells us that there is only one bread that we truly need and it’s the bread of life. Jesus IS the bread of life! All we must do is submit ourselves to Him and He will fill us with His Holy Spirit. Jesus met the needs of 5,000 by feeding them with only 5 loaves of bread and 3 fish. Just imagine what he will do for us if we come to Him. Our greatest need isn’t the bread of this world. Our greatest need is the spiritual bread that only Jesus can give.
My prayer is that we do not put our trust in the things of this world. Instead, our trust should be in only one, Jesus Christ. As we still our hearts and our minds, He will fill us with the only life-giving peace that we need. When we call on the name of the Lord, He will be there.
